Course description

The course is targeted at providing a general outline of Translational Hermeneutics, presenting the students with the spectrum of methodological dimensions and possible translation solutions in the interpretation of the source texts.

The students will work at the intersection of theory and practice, bringing to the fore the so-called “case theory”, since the discussion will be channeled into placing certain interpretations and translation choices into the wider literary, historical, cultural and sociological scope.

The course consists of 5 lectures:

Lecture 1. Translational Hermeneutics: Philosophy of the Paradigm. Introductory into the German Tradition.

Lecture 2. Translation as a Hermeneutic Motion. Translation Multiplicity. Hermeneutic Trends in the Ukrainian Studies on Translation.

 

Lecture 3. Romanticism, Neoromanticism, Literalism and Experimentalism in Translation. Postmodernist View on Translation as Re-writing.

Lecture 4. Iconicity in Translation. Translation and Imagology.

Lecture 5. Ethics of Translation. Translation Norms. The Institute of Translator.
