Roman Pomirko was born in the family of grain-growers in the town of Soudova Vyshnya, Lviv’ Region. Graduated from the Ivan Franko National University in Lviv, speciality “French and Spanish Languages and Literature”. During 1969 – 1973 worked as an interpreter from Spanish in Havana, Cuba. In 1973 toook a position of an assistant lecturing on French and Spanish Languages at the Ivan Franko National University in Lviv. During 1975 – 1978 unerwent the post-graduate courses at the Department of French Philology.

     In 1979 defended the thesis for the Candidate of Philology titling “Comparative Research of Loans. French-Spanish Lingual Equivalents” under the supervision of О. А. Dombrovskyi.

      In 1992 defended the Doctoral Thesis of “Spanish Language in the Processes of Divergence-Convergence of Its Dialects. Variability of Word”. The defence took place in the Taras Shevchenko State University in Kyyv (official opponents: the Academician of the Russian National Academy of Sciences Y. S. Stepanov; Professor, Doctor of Philology S. V. Semchynskyi (Kyyv); Professor, Doctor of Philology Y. O. Rylov (Voronezh). 

Brief Review of the Career:       1973 – 1981 – Lecturer of the Department of French Philology;
       1980 – 1983 – Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages;
       1981 – 1983 – Associate Professor, Dozent, the Head of the Department of French Philology;
       1987 – 1989 – Senior Scientist, (Doctoral Student).
      
       Since 1993 Roman Pomirko has been a Professor, Doctor of Philology, the Head of the Department of Romance Philology in the Ivan Franko National University in Lviv.
       1996 – 2000 – Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Head of the Department of Romance Philology.
