International Online Conference Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Hryhoriy Kochur Department of Translation Studies and Contrastive Linguistics at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
Hryhoriy Kochur Department of Translation Studies and Contrastive Linguistics at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Ukraine, is delighted to announce an international conference marking a significant milestone – our 25th anniversary. We invite scholars, educators, and professionals from around the world to join us in celebrating this occasion and engaging in thought-provoking discussions on the theme:
“Teaching Translation and Interpreting in Higher Education” (7-8 December, 2023)
About the conference: This conference serves as a platform to explore current challenges and opportunities in teaching translation and interpreting in the context of Ukraine’s increased global prominence and the complexities of our times, the ongoing war in particular.
The participants of the conference are invited to expand the discussion on the following topics:
1. Teaching Translation at the Time of War: Exploring the unique challenges faced by educators and students in regions affected by conflict and war.
2. Translating Ukraine to the World: Strategies for teaching translation that enhance Ukraine’s visibility and understanding on the international stage.
3. Teaching Various Types of Translation: From literary and audiovisual translation to
specialized fields such as legal and medical translation – sharing best practices.
4. Teaching Interpreting: Where tradition meets innovation – bridging the gap to futureproof trainee interpreters.
5. Technology in Translation Education: Integrating tools and software into the curriculum to prepare students for the digital age.
6. Professional Development: How academic institutions can foster the growth of future
translation and interpreting professionals.
7. Translation Ethics: Discussing ethical considerations in the training of future translators and interpreters.
Organizing Committee welcomes paper proposals that address these topics or any related aspects of teaching translation and interpreting in higher education.
The official conference languages are English and Ukrainian. Simultaneous interpreting will be provided.
Keynote speakers will be announced soon.
Two categories of proposals will be considered: (i) individual papers; (ii) panels.
Proposals for individual papers: Each paper presentation will be scheduled for 15 minutes and 10 minutes for discussion.
For individual presentations, a max. 350-word abstract (including references) and a bio-note should be sent to the organizing committee conference _teaching_translation@lnu.edu.ua by November 10, 2023.
Proposals for panels: Panels make up a collection of up to four paper presentations, each paper will be scheduled for 15-20 minutes, plus 10 minutes for discussion. Panel organizers are asked to submit the panel abstracts with a list of invited speakers en bloc to the organizing committee
